They didn’t haven’t show Tyrion commit the acts of SA he does in the books bc they thought it would torpedo his character values but then they for some reason out of nowhere have show Jamie do it for absolutely no reason whatsoever while he was on a redemption arc and nothing ever comes of it or is it ever talked about a gain, they were just like hey we want you to re-hate or question or be extremely confused by this out of nowhere behavior of this character you’ve grown to love over several seasons but we want you to feel all those things for 5 minutes but we’re never going to touch on it again and not is it plot relative in any form whatsoever

I had to stop watching this 15 minutes in because you'd sold me on it and I had to read Voyaging before I continued. It was excellent and I can't wait for volume 2.

So fun to hear someone so passionate about their work. Great interviewers and great interviewee.

I'm feeling some kind of way about Raya, I can't quite pinpoint it. I respect the fact that she has a rather self-reflective and critical view of diversity, at least implying that she would not be adding any diversity into a story where it would not fit narratively. I do still feel icky about simply changing all kinds of character's race, gender and sexuality for no other reason than the adaptor's own sensibilities and ideas, I hope GRRM had the final input on every single one of these changes. I also don't like the way she seems to be claiming ownership over "her diversity characters", at least in the way she is speaking about them. They are still George's characters, and should be respected in the way they are meant to be. That said, I agree with her that diversity in general is a good thing, where it makes sense and where it does not go against any of the story's inherent logic or intentionality. Seeing male and female, white and black, human and non-human characters work together in Star Trek and Star Wars in my childhood was definitely a good influence on my worldview. I grew up not distinguishing between race or gender, and I think that an idealized humanity of the future would be that way as well. However, that one transgender change that she made feels a little too intrusive to me. I'm by no means an expert on that topic, but changing a regular character into transgender surely brings with it certain psychological and personal implications that I don't think should be just added on top of a fully realized character. Skin color doesn't matter, in a globalized cosmos it says literally nothing about you, but changing the identity and sexuality of a character goes too far in my rather instinctive opinion. I think a storyteller should respect characters the way they are created, and let them be and act the way they are, and not intrude upon them in such a deeply personal way. Without any intention to cause division on this topic, is there even a general scientific consensus that the way we are dealing with transgenderism is the optimal solution, and not mixed up with certain psychological aspects that are product of our time and zeitgeist? I'm personally not sure because the way it is treated and discussed seems to be incredibly ideological on both sides of the conflict. Including characters of that nature might be taking a stance on a discussion that could date the story in a certain (detrimental) way, when the discourse could potentially be very different in 10 or 20 years. But that depends of course on the facts of the matter, perhaps Raya knows more about it. I am undecided on the topic, I just don't like it when ideology is given priority over established lore, characters and research, and I'm hoping this is not an instance of that. I believe that given a fundamental orientation towards improvement of ourselves and our surroundings, there is more harm than good in engaging in ideology rather than truthfulness. We have to know and understand ourselves and each other in order to learn how to live with each other, and learn how to help each other. That is not possible when we lie to ourselves or to each other, that will only cause division and otherization.
